Opening of pottery worker’s memorial, Burslem, 2017.

The opening of Pottery Worker’s memorial piece in The Burslem school of art.

The piece commemorates and celebrates the hard work of Stoke pottery workers since the birth of British ceramics in the town. Many of those who worked in the bottle kilns during their period of operation suffered from life threatening illnesses as a consequence of working in toxic environments.

Creation of ‘Speakers Corner’ commissioned by the Houses of Parliament

In 2015 Phil was commissioned by the Houses of Parliament and the Speakers Art Fund to design and create a ceramic mosaic lectern to be placed in Haywood 6th form College at Burslem Town Hall, Staffordshire.

The work was made using recycled 19th century Minton tiles from the House of Commons floor, originally produced in Stoke-On-Trent.

The concept, a ‘speakers corner’, was to provide a debating and lecturing platform for school and community use within Burslem.

The right honourable John Bercow MP was present to unveil the finished work.
